Assam Cabinet approves 34 polytechnics, 43 ITIs

The Assam government is going to establish 34 polytechnic institutes and 43 ITIs. The new institutes would be set up in Assam as part of the MoU signed between Assam government and Tata Polytechnic. The Tata Polytechnic would be funding 87 percent of the budget for the proposed institutes. Currently, a budget of Rs 2,390 crores has been set up for the same. This was announced today by Assam minister Keshab Mahanta after the holding of the cabinet meeting in Dispur. It was also announced that about a hundred employees of the Nagaon and Cachar paper mills will be provided jobs in various government departments in the next one hundred days. A sum of Rs 308.75 crores have been cleared for the rehabilitation of the employees of the two paper mills.
