Assam’s rising star, Bedabrat Bharali, has made headlines by winning two gold medals and one bronze at the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Fiji. Competing in the 73kg youth and junior categories, the 17-year-old showcased his incredible talent by lifting 136kg in snatch and 164kg in clean and jerk. His remarkable performance not only secured him his gold medals but also a bronze in the senior group, emphasing his versatility and strength against a backdrop of fierce competition.

With over 200 lifters from 25 countries participating, the championship, which commenced on September 16, highlights the best in weightlifting.
Bharali’s achievements come on the heels of his outstanding victory in May, when he clinched gold at the IWF World Youth Championships in Lima, Peru. There, he lifted a total of 296kg, outpacing his nearest competitor by an impressive 12kg. His feat made him the first Indian to achieve gold at the Youth World Championships, marking a significant milestone for Indian weightlifting.
Bharali’s success not only brings pride to his home state of Assam but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the nation.
