Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda has reacted for the first time amid speculation doing the rounds over change in leadership in the state. Sonowal made his first public appearance on Friday since the declaration of the assembly election results on May 2.

Speaking to mediapersons, the incumbent chief minister said that the parliamentary board of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take the final decision on government formation in a couple of days.

Sonowal further said that swearing-in of Chief Minister is not a priority at the moment, the biggest challenge and the biggest priority of the state government is to deal with the situation arising out of COVID-19 at the moment.

It may be mentioned that it has been five days since the assembly election results were declared. While Chief Minister’s of other states have taken their oath, Assam still does not know who is going to lead the government.

All eyes are now on the BJP now as it has to decide on who will be the next chief minister of the state.

The BJP-led alliance had retained power in the state by winning 75 of the 126 assembly seats.
