Doctor Goes Missing in Arunachal: This incident comes amid widespread devastation caused by early monsoon rains across Arunachal Pradesh.
In a tragic incident, a Guwahati-based doctor has gone missing during a solo bike trip to Arunachal Pradesh. The missing individual has been identified as Dr. Debenjit Kumar Sharma, who had traveled to Parshuram Kund and was staying near a riverside resort in the Lohit district.
Dr. Sharma was last seen on May 31. His personal belongings were later recovered near the resort, raising fears that he may have accidentally fallen into the swollen Lohit River. The river has been flowing dangerously fast due to relentless monsoon rainfall. Despite ongoing search and rescue efforts, there has been no trace of him so far.
This incident comes amid widespread devastation caused by early monsoon rains across Arunachal Pradesh. Since May 30, the region has witnessed multiple landslides and floods, with the official death toll climbing to 11.
In a separate incident, rescue teams have recovered the body of a truck driver who had gone missing in Anjaw district last Friday. His vehicle reportedly plunged into a deep gorge following a landslide. Operations led by the NDRF and BRO faced repeated delays due to hazardous weather and difficult terrain. The recovery marks Anjaw’s first confirmed fatality in the ongoing crisis.
Earlier, seven people including a pregnant woman and a child lost their lives in East Kameng when their vehicle was swept away by a landslide. Two additional deaths were reported in Lower Subansiri, while an 18-year-old driver died in Lohit due to flooding.
As the rainfall continues unabated, authorities remain on high alert. Rescue teams are battling poor visibility, unstable terrain, and persistent rain in what is shaping up to be one of the deadliest early monsoon seasons in recent memory.
