Voting for 47 constituencies going to polls in Phase-I of the Assam Assembly Elections 2021 is underway. Around 25.83 % voter turnout recorded till 11 am on Saturday, informed the Election Commission of India.
Top leaders of political parties including Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal exercised their franchise during the initial hours of the first phase.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged voters to exercise their franchise in large numbers.
“The first phase of elections begin in Assam. Urging those eligible to vote in record numbers. I particularly call upon my young friends to vote,” PM Modi tweeted.
Altogether 264 candidates, including 23 women, are in the fray in the first phase.
