The Assam Police has arrested All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam on charges of spreading rumours regarding the outbreak of Coronavirus in the state.
The Dhing MLA was arrested after he was detained by the Nagaon police on Monday night followed by intensive interrogation.
At a time when humanity is at crisis owing to the outbreak of the pandemic, the AIDUF MLA in a telephonic conversation had said that the Coronavirus did not spread from Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin.
If that was not all, Aminul Islam went on to the extent of saying that the government had resorted to anti-Muslim activities by bringing Tablighi Jamaat into context for no reasons.
An audio clip of the MLA went viral where he had purportedly mentioned that people who had attended the religious congregation in New Delhi and their family members were subjected to harassment in quarantine facilities.
Earlier too, the MLA had resorted to rumour mongering by stating that the government was conspiring against those who took part in the Tablighi Jamaat.
Nagaon Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gaurab confirmed the arrest of Aminul Islam who was brought for interrogation last evening.
During interrogation the AIUDF MLA confessed that the voice in the audio clip was his and had recorded the clip himself before circulating it to some other individuals.
The Nagaon SP added that legal actions would be initiated against those individuals to whom the audio clip was circulated.
Relevant sections have been filed against the MLA under the Disaster Management Act in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak for spreading misinformation.
Meanwhile, police probe is on to ascertain the criminal conspiracy behind the act of AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam.
