ACS officer Homen Gohain Barua, who is serving as Dergaon Circle officer has been arrested by the police in connection with an alleged land scam.

Barua, who has been arrested by the Police in Assam’s Karimganj has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the Land Port Authority scam amounting to Rs 6 crore 60 lakh. Baruah was serving as a Circle officer in Karimganj, when the alleged scam took place.

Earlier, two senior land revenue officials of the circle office in Karimganj, namely – Pranit Nath and Mohiranjan Malakar were arrested in connection with their alleged involvement in a scam involving Land Ports Authority of India’s project at Sutarkandi in Karimganj. Several documents were also seized from the duo.

The scam amounts to a tune of over 6 crore rupees in a project, which was granted by the Land Ports authority of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs to purchase lands for the purpose of expansion of Sutarkandi Trade Centre in Karimganj.

It is being alleged that some officials had allegedly prepared forged documents to siphon off funds, depriving the actual owners of the land.
