Assam Police seized 9,000 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup, worth Rs 1.5 crore on Friday.

The operation took place in the Churaibari area of Karimganj, Assam, as informed by a senior police official.

The police arrested the driver and co-driver of the vehicle, identified as Basudeb Das, 32, a resident of Jhalukbari, and Rahul Das, 18, respectively, residents of Mirza in Guwahati.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a six-wheeled lorry near the Assam-Tripura state border in Churaibari.

During a thorough inspection of the vehicle, police found 9,000 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup, which is prohibited. Additional Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, Pratap Das, stated that these bottles have a market value of around Rs 1.5 crore.

The police have initiated an investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) against the detainees.
