63 militants belonging to four rebel outfits formally laid down their arms in a ceremony at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Monday.
The ceremony was attended by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other government officials.
Taking to his Twitter CM Sonowal wrote, “Another significant step towards making a #TerrorismFreeAssam. I welcome the 63 members of ULFA(I), PDCK, DNLA & UPRF who joined the mainstream by laying down arms today in Guwahati. I appeal to them to start a new beginning and contribute towards the development of the state”
Drishti Rajkhowa, the former deputy commander-in-chief of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) was also a part of the ceremony.
Earlier in January, a total of 644 militants belonging to different insurgent outfits laid down their arms in a ceremony at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) auditorium.
This arms laying ceremony comes very close to the surrender of ULFA-I’s deputy Commander-in-Chief Drishti Rajkhowa.
Drishti Rajkhowa surrendered before the security agencies at an undisclosed location in Meghalaya late on November 11.
