Asian Games, Day 11 : India’s medal tally rise to 54; Swapna Barman, Arpinder Singh clinches gold

India’s medal tally is on the rise in the 2018 Asian Games with 11 Gold, 20 Silver and 23 Bronze on Day 11.

It is a double delight for India as Swapna Barman and Arpinder Singh clinched gold in heptathlon and triple jump.

With a jump of 16.77 Arpinder Singh won the gold medal after 48 years.

Meanwhile, Swapna Barman clinched gold in women’s heptathlon event after finishing the seven discipline event with over 6000 points.

Swapna became the first Indian woman to win gold in the heptathlon event in the Asian Games.

During the two day long event, the 21 year old had maintained her position among the medal contenders.

In the final event, the 800m, Swapna finished with a time of 2 minutes, 21.13 seconds earning 803 points, which was enough for her to win the event.

While, India’s exemplary performance in track and field events in the ongoing Jakarta Asian Games continues, Dutee Chand bagged silver in women’s 200m finals.

She crossed the finishing line in 23.20 seconds behind Bahrain’s Edi-dong Odi-ong who clinched the Gold.

She now joins her illustrious compatriots such as PT Usha in the list of athletes who have won more than one medal at the Asian Games.
