Asian Games 2023: Brilliance, grit and determination powers India to cross 100 medal mark, first time ever

It is indeed an awesome occasion for the entire nation as Indian athletes proved their mettle and powered India to cross the 100 medal mark at the ongoing Asian Games. A feat achieved by India for the first time ever in Asian Games. It is the women’s Kabaddi team’s gold defeating Chinese Taipei that helped India to achieve the milestone.

A spirit of joy and splendid achievement filled the minds of the billions of Indians after the achievement by the athletes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in congratulating the entire contingent on the momentous occasion.

Taking to X, PM Modi said, “A momentous achievement for India at the Asian Games! The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our phenomenal athletes whose efforts have led to this historic milestone for India. Every awe-inspiring performance has made history and filled our hearts with pride. I look forward to hosting our Asian Games contingent on the 10th and interacting with our athletes.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah too congratulated the athletes for their historic achievement. Shah in a post on X said, “Our medal tally reaches the 100th mark for the first time at the #AsianGames.
It is the new beginning of a sporting journey to achieve newer heights in success. This achievement lights a new beacon of hope among our athletes fuelling their pursuit of excellence with more power.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared his thoughts on the occasion. In a post on X, Sarma said, “Bharat’s historic achievement: 100 medals in #AsianGames2022.
Heartfelt congratulations to all our phenomenal athletes whose relentless dedication and undeterred spirit have made it possible. We feel proud of their excellent performances. Best wishes to all.IsBaar100Paar 🇮🇳”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also termed it as a historic moment for India. In a post on social media, Khandu said, “A truly historic day as India achieves the remarkable milestone of 100 medals at #AsianGames.
Congratulations to our athletes, whose hard work, dedication, and commitment have brought us this momentous achievement. The entire nation celebrates your success with immense pride. 🥇🇮🇳 AsianGames2023 #BharatAtAG22″

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha posted on X and said, “It is not a dream, it is reality…!
India crossed the medal tally of 100 at #AsianGames.
At this moment, I would like to convey my best wishes to all the athletes. I also thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for his visionary thinking and putting up schemes like #KheloIndia through which the hidden talent in different parts of the country came out & got better chance to perform.”

Former Indian cricketer, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has also lauded the athletes for their success. In a post Tendulkar said, “And it’s a hundred! 💯🥇🥈🥉
Achieving 100+ medals at the #AsianGames is a remarkable milestone that displays India’s sporting prowess. Let’s applaud the hard work of our athletes, coaches and support staff for their commitment to excellence that has brought our nation this glorious moment!”

Starting the day at 95, India got their assured five medals — four in archery and one in kabaddi — to officially reach the century. India beat their previous best of 70 medals at the last edition in Jakarta in 2018 by a huge margin.

This is only the second time India has won over 100 medals in any of the three international games — The Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

India won 101 medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
