Assam’s Hima Das has created history by winning silver medal at the women’s 400m event in the Asian Games.
The Indian sprint sensation broke the national record yet again as she closed 50.79 seconds in her women’s 400m finals to pick up the 8th silver medal for India.

The 18-year-old sprinter clocked 50.79 seconds, bettering the 51.00 seconds she took yesterday (Aug 25) in the semi-finals to qualify for the finals, to better her own national record she had set yesterday.
An unyielding Hima rallied to sprint past her opponents falling behind only to Bahrein’s Naser who won with a scorching time of 50.09 seconds.
While, Elina Mikhina of Kazakhstan took the bronze with a timing of 52.63 seconds, Nirmala in the starting line-up, missed the bronze as she finished fourth clocking 52.96 seconds.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the ace sprinter’s feat at the Asian Games. The Prime Minister congratulated Hima on her achievement and wished her best for future endeavours.

Meanwhile, celebrations gripped Hima’s hometown Dhing, as people cheered and burst crackers to celebrate Hima’s medal-winning feat.
