Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday congratulated boxers Shiva Thappa and Lovlina Borgohain for bringing laurels to the state as they clinched medals at the Asian Boxing Championships held in Dubai on Monday.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma lauded pugilist Shiva Thapa for winning silver at the Championships.
“Punch of pride! Heartiest congratulations to @shivathapa on bagging the Silver medal at #AsianBoxingChampionships. We are all very proud of your excelling in the rings, and certain that this is one among the many more glories that shall follow. May you continue to shine” the chief minister tweeted.
With this, Thapa becomes the only male Indian boxer in history to win his fifth medal at the Asian Boxing Championships.
On the other hand, female boxer Lovlina Borgohain settled for bronze in the 69 kg welterweight at the 2021 Asian Boxing Championships. She hails from Golaghat district of upper Assam.
Also, congratulating her, CM Sarma said, “A great day for us as Assam’s @LovlinaBorgohai brings us glory in form of a bronze in 69 kg welterweight at the #AsianBoxingChampionships. Our heartiest congratulations to you on this feat. With your determination, you shall only soar higher. Blessings and best wishes.”
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
