A proud moment for the region as Muri Linggi from Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang valley scripted history by becoming the second from the district to scale the Mount Everest.
On May 10, Muri started her journey at 1 am in the morning and after four days of rigorous trekking, she summitted Everest at 8 am on May 14.
Muri started from Roing to Kathmandu on April 7 and started her expedition to Mout Everest on the 12th of April from Lukla. She reached the base camp on April 20, but inclement weather foiled her attempts to move forward. However, she was successful on reaching the Everest top on May 14.
Muri Linggi did her basic course in mountaineering from National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Dirang in 2013 and was part of the women expedition team to climb Peak Menthosa in Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh.
She then went on to complete an advance course in mountaineering from Darjeeling in 2016 and climbed the Gorichen Peak in October 2017.
40-year old Muri Linggi, a mother of four daughters, campaigned for the prime minister’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana’ on the Everest on the occasion of Mother’s day which was celebrated on the 13th of May this year.
