Arunachal becoming child trafficking and prostitution hotspot? Itanagar police busts another interstate sex racket, rescues 2 minor girls; second such incident in 2 months

Itanagar Police have rescued two more minor girls ((WHEN WERE THEY RESCUED)) an official said on Sunday.
A special police team was formed to undertake a detailed in-depth investigative exercise and five people have been arrested so far from Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi, according to Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh.
The case surfaced on June 10 following information about two missing girls aged 15 and 16 years received by the Itanagar Women police station.
The two minors were rescued from the house of Mimi Bagang located at Chimpu in Itanagar.
As per official inputs, one 15-year-old girl, a resident of East Kameng district, was lured to Delhi in September 2023 and forced into prostitution. The other girl, from Kurung Kumey district, was about to be trafficked to Delhi when she was rescued.
After their rescue the girls revealed some harrowing details of their ordeals which included sexual assault, verbal and physical abuse.
A special police team investigating the case made multiple arrests over 15 days. Two, including the ringleader, were arrested in New Delhi while three others were apprehended in the northeastern state.
Singh stated that the need for increased societal awareness and proactive measures to combat such exploitation. The investigation continues, with an assurance that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, police have submitted a charge sheet in a separate case involving the trafficking of five minor girls in May before the court of the Special POCSO judge against 28 accused individuals. Singh noted that police have already arrested two people in that case, with more arrests likely to follow.
Earlier, in the month of May, the Itanagar Police has arrested 25 accused persons, including pimps and sexual assailants and rescued 5 minors.
Among the arrestees involved in the heinous crime is Toi Bagra (35), Deputy SP of Bulang Marik posted at 1st AAPBN in Itanagar, Constable.
The racket was busted after the Capital Police team got credible inputs of a prostitution racket involving minor girls being run from Chimpu. The girls were being taken from Dhemaji in the neighbouring state of Assam.
