Arunachal: AAPSU bats for stricter rules for hotels, beauty parlours after police bust prostitution racket in Itanagar

Days after a massive prostitution racket was busted in the heart of Arunachal’s capital Itanagar, the women’s wing of the state’s apex students body, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today called for stricter regulations for hotels and beauty parlours in the state.

Citing that the recent bust has completely exposed the involvement of hotels in such anti-social activities, the AAPSU’s women leadership informed that they are also working in close co-ordination with the police to get into the depth of the modus operandi of the racket, who had lured minors from Assam and forced them into prostitution.

AAPSU leadership briefing the media said, “As AAPSU members we strongly condemn this and such things should never happen again in Arunachal Pradesh. This morning we spoke to the Itanagar (Capital) SP and following up the case with the officer. We met the DC (Capital) and spoke about the involvement of hotels in such activities (giving space to sex rackets). Such activities are going on in the name of operating beauty parlours. We appealed the administration to conduct raids in hotels and norms must be put in place. We also discussed ways to eradicate such elements from the capital as well as the entire state.”

In it’s message to hotel owners, the AAPSU leadership said they must closely monitor the activities of the staff especially the manager who takes care of the daily operations.

“We want to tell the hotel owners that they hand over the affairs to the managers, but it is never seen as to how and in which manner the managers are operating such hotels. So the administration must take strict actions if anyone is found violating the rule of law. We also requested for thorough checks in beauty parlours, there must be strict vigilance,” the AAPSU leadership said.

The AAPSU leadership said, “We also want to tell the public that support us and give us intel and become responsible citizens against such activities. If this is done than we together along with the government can stop such crimes from happening. If the matter is only on the hands of the administration than such problems can never be resolved. So we need support of public also.”

On May 10, in a big breakthrough, the Arunachal Pradesh Police had busted a racket involved in flesh trade, operating in the heart of the capital city Itanagar.

The Itanagar Police swung into action after a complaint was filed by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and accordingly an operation was carried out on May 4. A raid was conducted at the alleged brothel and also a residence of 2 accused persons in the case.

What shocked everyone was the fact that 3 minor girls were found who later revealed that they were forced into prostitution when they were barely 8-14 years old.

Even more horrifying was the fact that names of persons who are holding significant government posts such as Junior Engineer of Rural Works Department, Assistant Engineer of PWD and even a Director Level officer of a government department were found to be indulged in sexually assaulting these minor girls.
