Arunachal: 2 Construction Workers Kidnapped; 1 Rescued, Search On For The Other; 3 Cadres Of A Militant Group Killed

Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched a joint operation in the area on April 27.

In a successful operation against militant activities including abductions and extortions in the North East, three hardcore cadres of a proscribed group were eliminated following a fierce gun battle between security forces and a heavily armed group of militants.

The operation took place at a remote location close to the Indo-Myanmar border between Pongchao in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh and Longwa in the Mon district of Nagaland.

As per inputs, the two workers were abducted on the night of April 25 from Pangchao.

In a post on X, the Defence PRO for northeast said, “Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched an operation on 27 Apr 2025 to rescue 2 construction workers, kidnapped on Apr 25 from Pangchao, Longding, Arunachal Pradesh. 3 cadres were neutralized & 4 weapons with ammunition were recovered. 1 worker rescued. Ops in progress.”

During the operation, four automatic weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores were recovered.
While one construction worker was successfully rescued, the search for the second abducted worker is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) has issued a clarification stating that its cadres were not involved in the encounter with security forces in Pongchao under the Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh.

In a statement, the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) has emphasized its commitment to peace and highlighted its ongoing peace talks with the Government of India.
