How well-equipped are the health facilities or Public Health Centre (PHCs) in the far-flung areas of Arunachal Pradesh? Are these facilities capable of treating patients in emergencies and providing timely care, or people are often forced to travel long distances to other hospitals, risking deterioration?
These concerns were raised after it was exposed that Public Health Centre in Yangte in Kra Dadi district of the state lacked a functional health infrastructure forcing 19 accident victims to travel a gruelling 300-kilometer distance that took nearly 7 hours to get treatment.
These people were injured after a pickup truck they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh last evening.
The incident has been reported from Yangte Circle in the district. The accident occurred due to a brake failure.
Speaking to Northeast Live, an injured person said that they rushed to the PHC, Yangte, but those injured could get medical treatment only after they reached the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Itanagar, following a gruelling 300-km journey that took them almost 7 hours.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, one inured person said, “We reached the PHC at around 4.30 pm, but due to lack of facilities and medicines, we did not get treatment and moved from there and reached TRIHMS at around 12.10 am midnight. We are now receiving treatment. Condition of some of the injured are critical.”
One of them also pointed out that poor road infrastructure is another aspect which can be attributed to the accident.
