Arunachal: 18 people arrested under APUAPA released

44 people including rights activist Sol Dodum were arrested to prevent any law and order situation during the 72-hour bandh called from May 10-12 to protest the APPSC scam

The Itanagar district administration on Monday released 18 people of the total 44 people who were detained under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (APUAPA) to prevent any law and order situation during the 72-hour bandh called by certain individual groups from May 10-12 to protest the APPSC question paper leak scam and the alleged slow pace of investigation into the scam.

The 18 released people are:

  4. Prem Dada
  5. Passang Kechak
  6. Dangi Pabin
  7. Tadar Nanyi
  8. Sogi Rina
  9. Sasi Lamnio
  10. Melung Lamnio
  11. Kahayang Lamnio
  12. Tolum Yarik
  13. Takam Anu
  14. Yura Yaka
  15. Gora Yallong
  16. Rina Pabing
  17. Tadar Panung
  18. Pungni Lamnio

Speaking to the media, Itanagar Capital Region DC, Talo Potom said the decision to release the 18 people was taken after the Advisory Board revoked their detention.

At least 14 more continues to be under detention which includes well known rights activist Sol Dodum.

  3. Taw Paul, Chairman Pro-dam movement
  4. Nabam Sanjay
  5. Yowa Bosco
  6. Viral Rabha
  7. Yowa Topu
  8. Kaku Yarda
  9. Licha Talang
  10. Jidam Riamuk
  11. Gyamar Tayu
  12. Prem Dada
  13. Phassang Kechak
  14. Dangi Pabin

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Youth President Tarh Johny has informed that the youth wing has deferred its proposed peaceful dharna that was to take place today at IG Park Itanagar as the state government has released the 18 people.

APYC had earlier demanded the immediate unconditional release of all the persons detained under APUAPA and threatened to launch a democratic movement against the government if they were not released.
