Meghalaya Minister Hek: The families of Sonam and Raja doubted the investigation conducted by Meghalaya Police.
In a clear and strong statement, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister AL Hek today demanded an official apology from the families of Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi for tarnishing the image of the state and its people or face defamation case.
“We are seeking an apology from both families of Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi. They have really tarnished the image of Meghalaya, and that’s why we, the people of the state, demand an apology. If not, we will have to proceed with a defamation case,” Hek said speaking to media in Shillong.
Hek expressed gratitude to the Meghalaya Police for their swift and thorough investigation and said, “We are thankful to the Meghalaya Police for completing the crackdown and investigation within seven days.”
The statement comes in the backdrop of murdered groom Raja Raghuvanshi and killer bride Sonam Raghuvanshi’s families accusing Meghalaya locals of killing Raja and kidnapping Sonam for their phones, money and jewellery. Some even went to the extent of saying that people of Meghalaya traffic women to Bangladesh when Sonam was not traceable till she appeared in Ghazipur yesterday at 1AM.
The families of Sonam and Raja doubted the investigation conducted by Meghalaya Police accusing the Police of being lax in its investigation and not doing enough to locate Raja and Sonam who had gone missing on May 23 in Sohra. The families, unhappy with the Meghalaya Police, were continuously demanding CBI inquiry.
The negative statements denting the image of Meghalaya by the Raghuvanshis to the media and negative comments by people from other states about Meghalaya and its people on social media have left the tourist-friendly people of Meghalaya hurt and they in unison are demanding an apology not just from the Raghuvanshis but everyone who made comments against Meghalaya and its people.
