Another Dibrugarh Shocker: Class XI Students Attack, Abuse, Threaten Pregnant Teacher

A five-month pregnant teacher of a school in Moran, in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh was attacked, abused and threatened by Class XI students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. A mob of 30-40 boys attacked her simply because she had reported to their parents about their poor performance and low marks.

“They were all Class XI students. There were around 30-40 of them. They gheraoed me and started abusing me. They were upset about the fact that I had informed their parents about their performance. I managed to escape with the help of some teachers but they still did not give up.

They tried to stop and gherao me. They were shouting beat her, attack her. Some girls from the girls’ hostel came to the rescue. Had it not been for my colleagues and the girls from the hostel, I don’t think I would have been safe,” the five-month pregnant teacher said.

Speaking to the media the principal of the school termed the incident as “very unfortunate” and said, “it is a very shameful incident. It is a heinous crime to attack a pregnant woman. We called the parents and asked them to take their children away for what they have done but the parents did not want to take them home and left the children at the school gate”.

The incident took place on November 27, 2022. The incident has come as a shocker for many across the state. Already Dibrugarh is hitting the headlines for the horrific ragging incident reported at Dibrugarh University.

This is not all, another ragging incident was reported at the Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh on November 19, 2 medical students have been suspended for their involvement in the crime.
