Amid global concerns over the new Coronavirus strain, a woman traveller from the United Kingdom, who arrived in Guwahati a few days ago, has tested positive for COVID-19.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
However, it is yet to be ascertained whether the patient has been infected with the new variant of COVID-19 or not. The sample of the patient has been sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune for verification.
Sources from the GMCH has told Northeast Live that the patient is asymptomatic.
As per reports, the Assam health authorities have identified 110 people who have come from the UK in the last one month and 67 of them have been tested for COVID-19 so far.
Meanwhile, contact tracing efforts are underway to trace all the other passengers in the flight taken by the woman traveller from UK.
