A delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Delhi and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee along with its members from Guwahati called on Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today and urged the state government to resolve the Sweeper Lane issue with a humane touch.

The delegation first visited the Sweeper Colony to take stock of the situation there. Later, the delegation called on Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong at his residence and appealed to him to resolve the issue amicably.

The delegation also said genuine residents of the colony should be relocated with the locality itself when the state government takes the initiative of re-developing the whole area.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong assured the delegation that the issue at hand has nothing to do with any community but the issue is that of relocation which is a decades old problem.

He also informed that land records department will start the survey of the area tomorrow and folowing the submission of its report, the high level committee set up to look into the matter will meet to decide the future course of action.

Talking about the demand from pressure groups to set a timeline to resolve the matter, Tynsong said the high level committee wants a permanent solution to the issue and will try to find a solution at the earliest.
