After Tura, Jowai will host next edition of the Meghalaya Games for the first time

After Tura, now Jowai in West Jaintia Hills will host next edition of the Meghalaya Games for the first time, announced Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

Taking to Twitter, CM sangma shared the highlights of the closing ceremony of the 5th Meghalaya Games held in Tura for the 1st time and said that the experience was unforgettable and that the government has now handed the baton to Jowai to host the next Meghalaya Games.

“Highlights of the closing ceremony of the 5th Meghalaya Games, 2024 in Tura. We are so proud to have hosted the Games for the 1st time in Tura and to see our small town light up cheering for our athletes. The experience was memorable to each of us. We now pass the baton to Jowai to host the next edition of the Meghalaya Games,” CM Sangma posted on X.

The 5th Meghalaya Games held at the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletics Stadium (Track & Field Stadium) in Tura, West Garo Hills district for the first time.

More than 3,000 athletes from across the state participated in the 6-day mega sporting event.

East Khasi hills emerged as the top medal winner in the Meghalaya Games 2024 by collecting a staggering 359 medals.

Of the 359 medals won by East Khasi hills, 132 were gold, 105 were silver and 122 were bronze medals.

At the second spot was Ri Bhoi by winning 79 medals, which included 27 gold, 22 silver and 30 bronze medals.

The third spot was taken by West Jaintia Hills with 68 medals – 25 gold, 18 silver, 25 bronze.

The 6-day mega sporting event was held in 23 disciplines across 16 venues.
