CCTV footage of the couple from outside the homestay has gone viral

Even as the hunt for Indore’s missing tourist Sonam Raghuvanshi entered the 14the day today, a new twist has emerged in the case after a tourist guide from Mawlakhiat claimed to have seen Sonam and her now dead husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, accompanied by three men on their way back to the Mawlakhiat parking lot.

According to local media reports who quoted the guide, Raja and Sonam had reportedly arrived at Mawlakhiat on May 22, rented a two-wheeler from Shillong, and stayed the night at Shipara Homestay in Nongriat.

The guide confirmed that he interacted with the couple on the evening of May 22 and offered to accompany them as a guide but they declined. However, he distinctly recalled seeing them again the next morning around 10 a.m., heading uphill towards the parking lot. Sonam was trailing slightly behind Raja, who was engaged in a seemingly friendly conversation with three tourists speaking in Hindi.

It needs to be mentioned that, Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, who were visiting Meghalaya for their honeymoon, went missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji) on May 23. The couple had last been seen after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat, accompanied by a local guide. Their abandoned scooty was later found near Sohrarim, triggering a large-scale search operation.

Today, CCTV footage of Sonam and Raja leaving the homestay on the scooty has emerged showing Sonam wearing a red and black jacket which looked similar to the one that police recovered from the site where Raja’s decomposed body was found.

Earlier, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, whose decomposed body was recovered on June 2, was murdered. However, Sonam Raghuvanshi is still missing.

As the mystery deepens and the search for Sonam continues, the incident has raised serious concerns about tourist safety in Meghalaya. The case is being treated with the utmost urgency, and authorities have assured that all efforts are being made to uncover the full truth behind this tragic incident.
