After 2 Days in Captivity, Manipur Doctor Rescued from Abductors, 5 Arrested with Arms and Ammo

According to the Manipur Police’s post on X, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom and threatened harm if their demands were not met.

In some prompt action, Manipur Police on November 24 safely rescued Dr. Kh. Nabakeshore, a medical officer, from the clutches of his abductors. The doctor was abducted no November 22 from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai, Imphal West. The victim was found in a farmhouse in Lamdeng under Lamshang Police Station, where he was held captive.

According to the Manipur Police’s post on X, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom and threatened harm if their demands were not met. Acting swiftly, the police launched a successful operation, leading to the rescue of the medical officer and arrest of four suspects on November 24.

The arrested individuals were identified as Wahengbam Ramananda, alias Rousow or Luwangamba, reportedly linked to KCP (MC) Lalumba, Wahengbam Usharani, alias Piyari or Abem, Naoraibam Joyshankar, aged 39, and Leichombam Bipin Singh, aged 32. From their possession, the police recovered a significant cache of arms, including a 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine, a .32 mm pistol with a magazine, and ten live rounds of .32 ammunition.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Paonam Shamungou, alias Pintu, on November 26. A subsequent search of the residence of Wahengbam Ramananda led to the recovery of additional weapons and ammunition.

The recovered items included a 9 mm pistol with a magazine loaded with three rounds, a 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine, a revolver, two carbine magazines, one additional magazine, 28 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, one round of 7.62 mm ammunition, and four detonators. The police also seized a .22 rifle with a magazine and eight soap caps suspected to contain heroin No. 4.
