Advantage Assam 2.0 | Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari Announces Projects Worth Rs 80,000 Cr, Guwahati Ring Road by Dec 2027

Advantage Assam 2.0 has brought a lot of good news for Assam. Addressing the mega infrastructure and investment summit on its second day today, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari announced road and highways and underwater tunnel projects worth Rs 80,000 crore including a 55 km greenfield 6-lane Ring Road for Guwahati and a 12.5 km underwater tunnel under the Brahmaputra between Numaligarh and Gohpur to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 15,000 crore.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been completed for this project and clearance has been granted by the Ministry of Defence. A new road project costing Rs 3,225 crore is coming up to improve connectivity between Jagiroad and Bhutan via Bhairabkunda and the Kamakhya Ropeway Project is also underway to enhance accessibility to the revered pilgrimage site.
Sharing details of a slew of new road projects, Minister Gadkari said that a 4-6 lane 55 km Ring Road would come up in Guwahati and the greenfield project would be completed by December 2027. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5,800 crore.
Tender for a 6-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Kuruwa in Darrang and Narengi in Guwahati have been awarded and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to perform the bhoomi pujan ceremony soon.
The Guwahati to Silchar greenfield corridor via Barapani would be awarded by July this year. The Minister said the road project would come up at an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crore.
Minister Gadkari also shared details of other key infrastructure projects worth Rs 60,000 crore which are already ongoing
Kaziranga Elevated Corridor being built at a cost of Rs 6,000 crore. The 35-km four-lane road with soundproof technology will ensure wildlife safety.
Bilasipara-Guwahati Road Project is being built at a cost of Rs 8,300 crore for a 225-km stretch. It is set to be completed by October 2027.
Kamakhya Temple Expressway is a new corridor that will take just five minutes for people to reach Kamakhya Temple from Kamakhya Railway Station.
The Silchar-Sutarkandi Road Project is being built at a cost of Rs 6,700 crore. The 121 km stretch is expected to be ready by December 2028.
The Mahur Dual Road Project covering a stretch of 80 km is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 3,300 crore and is expected to be ready by December 2026.
The Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, a 54-km four-lane road from Srirampur to Dhubri is being built at Rs 1,600 crore,.
Dibrugarh-Ledo Bypass is being built at a cost of Rs 1,900 crore.
Gadkari further announced that Assam will witness a Rs 3 lakh crore investment in infrastructure, including bamboo-based biofuel projects to promote alternative energy.
CM Sarma emphasized that improved road connectivity would bridge the gap between the Barak and Brahmaputra Valleys, fostering regional integration.
He also stressed the urgent need for educational transformation to create skilled manpower for the upcoming industrial investments. Assam has already signed MoUs with ITA Singapore and leading skill universities, ensuring a workforce aligned with future industry demands.
With these ambitious projects, Advantage Assam 2.0 is set to redefine the state’s economic landscape and position it as a key industrial hub in the coming years.
