The Prime Minister underlined India's focus on strengthening supply chains and advancing the manufacturing sector on a mission mode.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati, highlighted Assam’s growing role as a crucial gateway between South East Asia and India. He stressed the government’s commitment to boosting industrialization, investment, and tourism in the Northeast through the North East Transformative Industrialization Scheme, named ‘Unnati’.
“Assam is emerging as a gateway between South East Asia and India. To further expand this potential, the government has launched the ‘Unnati’ scheme, which will give a major boost to industry, investment, and tourism across the entire Northeast, including Assam. I urge all of you from the industry to take full advantage of this scheme and Assam’s limitless potential,” PM Modi stated. The Prime Minister underlined India’s focus on strengthening supply chains and advancing the manufacturing sector on a mission mode, saying that the world now demands a resilient supply chain, and India is positioning itself as a global manufacturing hub.
PM Modi pointed out the remarkable growth of Assam’s economy since the first Advantage Assam Summit in 2018. “Back in 2018, Assam’s economy was valued at Rs. 3 lakh crores. Today, in just six years under the BJP government, Assam has grown into a Rs. 6 lakh crore economy. This is the double effect of the double-engine government,” he said, attributing this growth to policy stability, infrastructural development, and economic reforms. He also emphasized India’s growing global trade partnerships, mentioning Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with different regions and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, which is opening up new opportunities.
Highlighting the positive transformation in Assam, PM Modi said, “In the last decade, we have signed several peace accords and resolved long-pending border issues. Today, every citizen and youth in Assam is working day and night for its development. We have created a strong ecosystem for industry and innovation, and our government is making massive investments in infrastructure.” He further revealed that Assam has set an ambitious target of reaching a $150 billion economy by 2030 and expressed confidence in achieving it, citing the capable and talented people of Assam as its driving force.
Discussing infrastructure advancements, PM Modi highlighted the major developments in railways and road connectivity. “Before 2014, Assam had only three bridges over the Brahmaputra. In the last 10 years, we have built four more bridges, including one named after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. Between 2009 and 2014, Assam received only Rs. 2,100 crore in the railway budget. Our government has now quadrupled this amount to Rs. 10,000 crore. We have significantly improved air connectivity, ensuring that Assam remains well-connected to the rest of the country and the world.”
Speaking on India’s rising global influence, PM Modi said that despite global uncertainty, the world trusts India’s rapid growth. He listed several key reasons for this confidence, stating that India’s youth population is becoming highly skilled, India’s neo-middle class is moving out of poverty and embracing new aspirations, India’s 140 crore citizens ensure political stability and policy continuity, India’s governance is constantly reforming and improving, and India is strengthening its local supply chain, making it a reliable partner in global trade.
