Absconding Campus Front of India (CFI) leader Amir Hamja has been arrested by Assam Police. Hamja was arrested last night in Bengaluru by the Assam Police in a special operation with the help of Karnataka Police.
Hamja has been sent to 3 days transit remand by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bengaluru. It has been learnt that Amir Hamja will be produced before the CJM Court in Guwahati on Monday.
Absconding Campus Front of India leader Hamza was hiding in Bengaluru with some families of Tripura. The CFI leader was absconding after the ban of PFI by the Centre.
On October 2, the Centre had banned Popular Front of India and its associates/ affiliates/fronts including Campus Front of India (CFI) as an “unlawful association” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The ban came exactly a year after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma demanded a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI) claiming that the organization was involved in the violence at Gorukhuti in Darrang district during an eviction drive.
