Mukul Hazarika, a rickshaw puller from Assam’s Darrang district has finally returned home after languishing at the Feni Jail in neighbouring Bangladesh.
It was an emotional moment for Mukul’s father Fuleshwar Hazarika as he received his son at Tripura’s Belonia along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
After spending about five years in a Bangladeshi jail, Mukul Hazarika has been handed over to India by Bangladesh.
Mukul Hazarika entered India through international border in Tripura’s Belonia after he was handed over to Assam police by Bangladesh Border Guards.
Mukul Hazarika, hailing from Hodapara village in Darrang district, went missing in 2017. 41-year-old Mukul, who is a father of three children, has been languishing in a jail in Bangladesh since then.
Although his distraught family had filed an FIR back then, but his whereabouts remained a mystery.
In 2019, a letter was sent from the high Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Assam government informing them of the man languishing in a prison in the country.
However, the case remained stuck in the layers of red-tapism in Dispur.
Finally, Assam Home Secretary Diganta Bora and Darrang SP Sushanta Biswa Sarma pursued the matter and now finally Mukul Hazarika is all set to return home.
Mukul’s aged father Fuleswar Hazarika, along with a team of Assam Police received him at the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura today.
The family members thanked Darrang SP Sushanta Biswa Sarma and hopes that Mukul returns home at the earliest.
