Locals alleged that the girl's life could have been saved if she had been given the correct treatment initially.

In an incident of utter negligence and carelessness, doctors at a Primary Health Center (PHC) in Assam allegedly gave a tetanus injection to a 9-year old girl who was bitten by a snake.

The incident has brought to light serious deficiencies in the local healthcare system in the state.

As per inputs, a young girl was bitten by a snake and rushed to the Sipajhar Primary Health Center (PHC) for treatment today.

Shockingly, instead of administering anti-venom, doctors gave her a tetanus injection. After which her condition deteriorated and she was referred to Mangaldai Civil Hospital. However, due to the lack of an ICU facility there, she was then referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Unfortunately, the repeated delays and lack of timely treatment led to her death.

The incident has flared outrage among locales, who alleged that the girl’s life could have been saved if she had been given the correct treatment at the initial health centre.

The girl’s death now raises serious questions about the responsibility and efficiency of healthcare services in local PHCs and hospitals.
