80 acres of illegal poppy plantations destroyed in Manipur

Security forces along with district administration on Thursday carried out an anti-poppy drive at four separate locations in Manipur’s Churachandpur district and destroyed over 80 acres of illegal poppy plantations.

The drive was conducted at four locations, namely Bungsang, Saronphai, New Dampi and Geljang. The joint team comprising of Police, District Administration, Assam Rifles and NAB was led by the SP, Churachandpur District.

Moreover, FIRs have been registered at the Kumbi Police Station in connection with the poppy cultivation.

Similarly in Chandel District, a combined team comprising of 40 personnel of Chandel Police, 7 personnel of NAB and 4 personnel of NCB led by Additional SP Shankerjit Loitongbam, under the supervision of SP N. Madhunimai, destroyed around 28 acres of poppy cultivation at New Lamkang Khunthak in Chandel district yesterday.

Accordingly, a case was also registered at the Chandel Police Station for further necessary action.
