Class 7 Student Dies After Punishment by Teacher in Assam, Police Detain Accused Teacher

The alleged teacher have been arrested after the grieving parents lodged a complaint, prompting the police to detain the accused teacher.

A tragic incident has sparked outrage after a Class 7 student succumbed to injuries allegedly caused by corporal punishment.

The incident took place on 18 January at Sirajuli New Harijan School in Dhekiajuli town of Assam’s Sonitpur district.

According to the school principal, the student has been identified as Aman Mahato who was reportedly beaten by a teacher, Uttam Bakshi Mahanta for talking with classmates during class.

Although he completed his classes that day, Aman fell ill two days later and was rushed to Tezpur Medical College Hospital (TMCH), where he tragically died. 

The alleged teacher have been arrested after the grieving parents lodged a complaint, prompting the police to detain the accused teacher.

The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of corporal punishment in schools, with calls for stricter measures to ensure student safety.
