The 75th biennial session of Asom Sahitya Sabha has begun from Friday at Sualkuchi in Kamrup district. Sualkuchi is known as the Manchester of the east for its exquisite silk
The 75th biennial session of Asom Sahitya Sabha has begun from Friday at Sualkuchi in Kamrup district. Sualkuchi is known as the Manchester of the east for its exquisite silk weaving culture.
Asom Sahitya Sabha which is revered as the apex literary body of Assam was established in 1917 to promote the culture of Assam and Assamese literature.
Various literary and cultural programmes have been organised at ‘Jyoti Khetra’ to mark the session of the literary body.
Along with literary discussions, poets’ meet, colourful cultural programmes have also been organised. In the book fair which has been dedicated to Jnapith Award winner famous litterateur Mamoni Raisom Goswami, many leading publishers of the state have put-up their stalls.
On the other hand, many books will be released during the session where prominent literary figures of Assam will be present.
The newly elected office bearers of Asom Sahitya Sabha will take over the responsibilities from the outgoing committee in the 75th session.
The session will conclude on February 4.
