After high drama at the Silchar airport on Thursday, the Trinamool Congress delegation, which had left for Kolkata early this morning, reached Kolkata airport.

While 6 of the 8 member-team reached Kolkata, the remaining two will leave for New Delhi later in the day.

Earlier, The Trinamool Congress delegation landed at the Silchar airport on Thursday at 2pm to assess the situation in the Barak valley following the publication of draft NRC.

They were denied entry to Silchar and were detained at the airport but not before they engaged in scuffle with police personnel deployed at the airport. Two female Assam police constables were also injured in the scuffle and had to be treated.

The TMC delegation after their arrest was offered to be taken to a guest house but they refused and preferred to spend the night at the airport lounge where special arrangements were made for them.

Their visit was opposed by various quarters in view of their leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s highly provocative remark on Wednesday when she said the non-inclusion of names of 40 lakh people in the draft NRC will lead to civil war in Assam.
