6 dead bodies, 1 minor sexually abused, 2 women trafficked, one abduction: All in 48 hours in Assam

The sudden surge in the number of cases of crime have raised questions about the law and order situation in the state

Assam has seen a significant surge in the number of criminal cases in just the last 48 hours. Six dead bodies were recovered under mysterious circumstances from different locations of the state, a minor boy was sexually assaulted by a man, as many as 3 women have fallen prey to human trafficking and a college girl was kidnapped, all in the span of 48 hours.

In the first case, the body of a young man was found in his rented room in the Chachal locality of Guwahati on Wednesday, August 16. A foul smell emanating from the room caught the attention of neighbours. That led to the recovery of the body.

Later in the evening, the body of a man was recovered from under the Bhangagarh flyover. As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Sanu Kalita. He was a daily wage labourer.

On August 16, a mother and her daughter were found dead lying in a pool of blood at Rangia in Kamrup district.

Today, the body of a man was recovered in the Boragaon area of Guwahati. The youth was found dead atop the new flyover at Boragaon. The deceased man has been identified as Dipu.

A man was found dead with no clothes inside a room of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Assam’s Cachar district this morning. The identity of the deceased is not known yet.

A minor boy was allegedly sexually abused by his classmate’s father in Nazira area of Assam’s Sivasagar district today.

The accused identified as Abidul Ali has abducted him, then allegedly sexaully abused him.

The incident came to light after the victim child shared his ordeal with his parents. Abidul Ali has been arrested by police.

A college student was allegedly abducted in broad daylight from North Guwahati today. The incident took place near Dol Govinda temple in North Guwahati, Assam.

As per the locals, a girl in college uniform tried to jump from a moving car, however, the driver turned the car and fled from the area with the girl.

Two women have fallen victims to human trafficking in Hojai district today.

Family of the victims alleged that a man named Jalal Uddin along with two women lured them with the promise of a job and then duped them into engaging in illegal activities in Guwahati.

These cases of crime has raised serious concerns. Investigation into these cases are underway.
