5 Bangladeshi infiltrators, 1 Indian tout arrested in Tripura

In a significant operation, at least six people including five Bangladeshi infiltrators and one suspected Indian tout were arrested from West Tripura district on Tuesday for illegally entering Indian territory.
The arrests were made in the Nandannagar area following a specific intelligence tip-off, as confirmed by Inspector Sushanta Deb, Officer-in-Charge of NCC police station who led the operation.

He stated that acting on the intelligence, police teams were dispatched to Nandannagar Muslimpara, where they detained several individuals on suspicion. During their interrogation in police custody, the suspects revealed that they had illegally crossed the India-Bangladesh border near the Narshingarh area, close to Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala.

The police found Bangladeshi currency notes in the possession of the detainees, further confirming their illegal entry. As none of the suspects could produce valid legal documents authorizing their presence in Indian Territory, they were promptly arrested.

The infiltrators claimed they had entered Tripura in search of employment opportunities.

Among those arrested was Isha Ali, an Indian national from Murshidabad, West Bengal, who is believed to have played a key role in facilitating the illegal entry of the Bangladeshi nationals.

Ali along with other arrested is currently being interrogated by the police to gather more information about the network involved in smuggling and trafficking activities across the border.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about border security and illegal immigration in the region.
The Tripura police have intensified their vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border, especially in sensitive areas close to the state capital, to prevent such incidents. Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the infiltration and any potential links to larger smuggling operations.

The authorities have also appealed to the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities in their localities, as community participation is crucial in ensuring security in border areas.

Recently, as many as seven people including five Bangladeshi infiltrators and two suspected Indian touts were arrested in two separate incidents in Tripura.

Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Lankamura village in West Tripura district on Friday night. Meanwhile, two suspected Indian touts were arrested during a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Belabar village, located close to the international border at Amtali in West Tripura district, on Saturday night.
