4 years of SKM govt: Oppn SDF says SKM failed as a party as well as in governance

The accusations came forward shortly after the Sikkim Assembly passed a Budget of Rs 12,146.51 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24

The Sikkim Democratic Party (SDF) launched a scathing attack on the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party as the party under the leadership of CM PS Tamang completed four years in office today. The SDF said that SKM has failed as a party as well as in governance and also accused the ruling party of misappropriation of Budget allocations.

The accusations came forward shortly after the Sikkim Assembly passed a Budget of Rs 12,146.51 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24.

During a press conference, MK Subba, the Chief Spokesperson of the SDF, criticized the SKM party, stating that their mismanagement issues have become apparent following the Budget Session. He accused the ruling party of neglecting the grassroots people and favouring their business partners, which he referred to as crony capitalism.

Subba expressed his disappointment with the SKM party’s performance, asserting that they have failed in every aspect. He pointed out their alleged mishandling of the budget, claiming it to be a “death trap” with debts exceeding Rs 19,339 crores.

Comparing the situation to Sri Lanka, MK Subba said that Sikkim is heading down a similar path due to the government’s poor financial management.

Subba also compared the political scenario in Sikkim to that of Jammu and Kashmir, citing incidents of stone-pelting and rising crime rates. He criticized the current administration for the lack of proper rule of law and stated that the state’s law and order have been severely impacted.

Although the SKM party has asserted that the budget is focused on the welfare of the people, Subba disputed this claim. He alleged that the budget primarily caters to the government’s flagship programs, neglecting the needs of the public and rural areas. Subba contended that the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 fails to address the demands of the people, as it does not reflect their concerns and requirements.
