4 men arrested for kidnapping, sexually assaulting two minors in Arunachal Pradesh

In a shocking incident, at least four persons, including a police personnel arrested for allegedly kidnapping, sexually assaulting two minor girls from Arunachal Pradesh at different locations in Assam’s Harmuti and Guwahati.

According to top police officer, the disappearance of two minor girls, one aged 14 years and another 12 years, from their residence at Chandannagar was reported on 20th January.

As the investigation unfolded, crucial information surfaced indicating that the missing girls were in Guwahati. Collaborating with Assam Police the girls were rescued on 21st January and transported back to Itanagar on 22nd.

Giving details of the case, top police officer told media that the minor girls had on last Friday voluntarily went out of their home at Itanagar for a trip to ‘Tripura’, thinking it to be in Assam before falling prey to the quartet.

Upon receipt of distressing complaints about the disappearance of two minor girls from their residence, the Itanagar Women Police Station registered a kidnapping case under IPC Section 363 and entrusted it to SI Topi Josam for a thorough investigation.

The subsequent inquiry unveiled a harrowing tale of the girls were not just missing, they were victims of a heinous crime, subjected to kidnapping and sexual assault in Harmuti and Guwahati.

The perpetrators, identified as ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’, were swiftly apprehended,” the official said without naming them.

“A requisition for additional charges was initiated, prompting the case’s reassignment to the capable hands of Inspector Nich Rupa. The girls disclosed that their escapade began voluntarily, seeking adventure, but took a sinister turn when they encountered an individual, who introduced himself as a police personnel at Naharlagun Railway Station, leading to their subsequent abduction. The accused transported them to Harmuti, where a hotel became the scene of unspeakable crimes.

The investigation further unravelled connections to a parlour (saloon) in Guwahati, run by an individual identified as ‘D’.

Top officer, while acknowledging the relentless efforts of the police team, led by ASP Garima, and supported by SDPO Kengo Dirchi, Itanagar WPS OC Inspector Rina Sonam, Inspector Nich Rupa, SI Rosy Singpho, SI Inya Tato, SI Topi Josam, and others, lauded their quick response and sensitive handling of the case.

“Within a mere 48 hours of learning about the sexual assault, the team successfully identified and arrested unknown perpetrators across state boundaries,” he said.

The SP also conveyed his gratitude to DCP East Guwahati, Akshat Garg, ACP Dispur Nishant Saurabh, ACP Chandmari Nitisha Jagtap, and ACP Panbazar Amit Mahato and their team for their indispensable support to the Itanagar Police team, and upholding the “Arunachal Pradesh-Assam law enforcement agencies cooperation charter”.
