In a big blow to the BJP in Nagaland, as many as 37 party leaders quit the party on Sunday.
Among 37 leaders who quit the party are two senior BJP leaders – HK Khulu & Kuhoi Zhimomi.
HK Khulu, a retired IAS officer, held the position of state executive member of the Nagaland BJP, while Kuhoi Zhimomi was a former executive member of the party’s state unit.
In a joint resignation letter signed by both Khulu and Kuhoi Zhimomi, the Nagaland BJP leaders mentioned that they have resigned from the primary membership of the party as they cannot agree with the principles and philosophy of the BJP party in general, mainly referring to the Citizenship Amendment Bill in particular.
Although the BJP leaders have not decided to join any other party yet, they will extend their support to Congress Lok Sabha candidate KL Chishi.
