33 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Assam on Tuesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 2,868. Among the new cases, 17 are from Tinsukia, 4 from Jorhat,

33 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Assam on Tuesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 2,868.

Among the new cases, 17 are from Tinsukia, 4 from Jorhat, 3 from Barpeta, 2 from Chirang, 2 from Karbi Anglong, 2 from Nagaon, 1 from Baksa, 1 from Golaghat, 1 from Majuli.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Alert ~ 33 new #COVID19+ cases reported. 17 Tinsukia, 4 Jorhat, 3 Barpeta, 2 Chirang, 2 Karbi Anglong, 2 Nagaon, 1 Baksa, 1 Golaghat, 1 Majuli.”

Meanwhile, places of worship, shopping malls and restaurants across Assam reopened to the public on Monday after remaining closed for around two-and-half months since the lockdown began on March 25 to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Temples, mosques and gurudwaras, as well as shopping centres and eateries allowed entry to people while ensuring that social distancing norms are followed in accordance with the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, according to the authorities concerned.
