Three persons from Lamhainamdi village under Peren district in Nagaland were shot dead by unidentified gunmen while they were working in their fields on Monday evening.
As per sources, the three individuals were working in their plot in Lamhainamdi when the incident took place. Furthermore, 2 burnt vehicles were also recovered from the village.
However, the connection between the vehicles and the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, when contacted with the Peren Superintendent of Police, he refused to divulge any information stating that investigations are underway. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to probe into the incident headed by a senior Police officer and Sec 144 CrPC has been clamped in the area to prevent any kind of untoward incident.
It needs to be mentioned that the three civilians were earlier taken captive by NSCN(U) earlier this month from Lamhainamdi village. Following which the Zeliangrong Students’ Union held a peaceful protest rally in Jalukie against the illegal confinement of civilians and submitted a memorandum seeking the intervention of the Governor of Nagaland Shri RN Ravi into the matter. Later on, the three civilians were released on March 15th.
