At least three hardcore ultras of Naga National Council (NNC) outfit were apprehended in a joint operation by the Cachar police and Assam Rifles from Kroulong and Namdailong villages along the Assam-Manipur border.
Cachar SP Numal Mahatta informed that the militants are suspected to be involved in the killing of high level NNC cadre Gaidin Chungpow Rongmei alias Sela Rongmei on December 12 at Namdailong village.
Mahatta stated, based on specific intelligence input, a special operation was launched on December 16, in the villages of Kroulong and Namdailong, along the Assam-Manipur Border.
The three hardcore NNC cadres were apprehended during the operation and after thorough interrogation they were arrested and taken into police custody for 10 days.
During the interrogation they have admitted that they are active cadres and area commanders of the Naga National Council. The operation was jointly conducted with the Assam Rifles.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
