21 Manipur MLAs have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah demanding reinstatement of a popular government in the state.

The letter was submited at the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister’s offices yesterday by 3 MLAs Paonam Brojen, Kh Raghumani and Dr Yumnam Radheshyam.

13 BJP MLAs and 3 MLAs each of the NPP and NPF besides two independents have signed the letter.

The letter said that even after 3 months of imposition of President’s rule, there has been no visible action towards restoration of peace and normality in the state.

The MLAs said in the letter that there is a strong apprehension among the people that violence may reoccur in the state.

The letter added that many civil society organisations have come out openly against President’s Rule and have been organising rallies and street corner meetings demanding the installation of a popular government.

President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur, after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned on February 9, 2025.
