The Oil and Natural Gas Organisation is facing protest from 20 organisations at Nazira in Assam’s Sivasagar district where the company has been accused of allegedly adopting a discriminatory stance against the local people.

Protests began from Thursday onwards as the groups have blocked the movements of all ONGC vehicles, and along with this the protesters have also stopped all crude oil exploration works of ONGC’s Assam unit.

It is to be noted here that the ONGC’s material management had called for 392 tenders for vehicles on May 10. But the conditions were allegedly put that most of the local applicants could not even try for it.

The groups had called for relaxation of the conditions and eventually resorted to protest after no steps were taken from ONGC’s side.
