A runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport was shut for operations after two planes came into contact on the taxiway, Japan’s transport ministry said, adding that no injuries or damage was reported. Japan Times reported one of the passengers sharing the impact of the contact.
The incident occurred around 11 am on Saturday (local time) and involved commercial planes operated by Thai Airways and Taiwan’s Eva Airways, as per the ministry and Tokyo Fire Department.
Of the four runways at Haneda, Runway A was closed for operations following the mishap.
In footage broadcast by NHK, the two planes on the runway stopped as fire department officials and other staff gathered at the taxiway. Reports suggest that unidentified debris could also be seen on the ground near the planes.
Local media also reported a delay in flight operations at Tokyo airport.
Japan Times quoted one of the passengers who were aboard the Eva Airways flight, “Part of the wing of the Thai Airways plane was chipped.”
As per the transport ministry of Japan, about 260 passengers and crew members were on the Thai Airways plane while nearly 200 were aboard the Eva Airways flight. Also, NHK reported the affected Runway A, which is 300 meters in length, resumed operations after 1 pm (local time).
