2 Dead, 2 Others Injured After Car Hits Tree in Assam’s Barpeta

The two deceased persons have been identified as Bipul Krishna Das and Surjya Talukdar.

At least two people died and two were injured after a car hit a tree in Assam’s Barpeta district on Monday night.

As per inputs, the driver of the speeding vehicle lost control and hit a roadside tree on National Highway 27 in Barpeta.

Following the accident, two persons in the car died on the spot.

The two deceased persons have been identified as Bipul Krishna Das and Surjya Talukdar. Meanwhile, two other persons were also in the vehicle during the accident, and they have been seriously injured.

The injured have been identified as Harihar Kalita and Kishore Thakuria, and have been hospitalised.
As per inputs, this wreck happened when they were headed to Bhabanipur from Barpeta Road via Howly.
Sources stated that the Bipul Krishna Das had bought the Scorpio vehicle in just one month.

A probe into the incident is underway, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Earlier on December 8, Assam DGP GP Singh stated that the state has achieved a reduction in road accident fatalities, with official data for November showing a 24.48% decline compared to the same month last year.

The cumulative figures from January to November 2024 also reflect a significant 14.28% decrease in fatalities compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

Assam DGP GP Singh took to X to put out, “Road Traffic Accidents data for the state of Assam – In terms of fatalities for the month of November, Assam registered a decline of 24.48% as compared to November of last year and from January till November cumulatively the state has shown a decline by 14.28% as compared to the Same period of last year.”
