2 days to go and Manipur will be going to the first phase of elections. But what are the key issues that are likely to impact the outcome of the poll battle? Among other several key issues, the so-called hills valley divide seems to be a prominent one besides the AFSPA issue.

Both, the BJP and the Congress are hurling jibes at each other on this key issue. AICC leader and Manipur election observer Jairam Ramesh today outrightly rejected BJP’s allegations of Congress creating a divide between the hills and the valley. Ramesh said that BJP’s allegations are bogus and Congress stands for unity.

Jairam Ramesh maintained that Congress only spreads the message of diversity, respect and tolerance. The Congress leader accused the BJP of spreading hatred and prejudice.

In what can be termed as a big promise by the Congress ahead of the elections, Jairam Ramesh assured that the Congress, will hold elections to the Autonomous District Councils, within 6 months if voted to power.

Meanwhile, political parties are making last-ditch efforts to woo the voters by projecting different agendas. The Congress took the campaign to hill district Churachandpur today where AICC leader and Manipur election observer Jairam Ramesh drummed up support for his party.
