The 18th Foundation Day of Bodoland Day is being celebrated today in Bodo Territorial Region (BTR) to mark the signing of second Bodo Accord which paved the way for formation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

On this day, back in 2003 the historic BTC Accord was signed. The memorandum of settlement (MoS) was signed between the Centre, state governments and leaders of Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT) on February 10, 2003.

On the occasion of 18th Bodoland day, BTC administration has declared a government holiday today for all the offices of the entrusted departments of BTC.

A large function is being held at Dergaon to mark the event. Special tributes have been paid to the Bodo martyrs, who died during the militancy period.

This foundation day is also significant as it comes right off the heels of the recent Bodo peace accord, which was signed by the NDFB rebels and the Centre.

Meanwhile, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Assam minister Pramila Rani Brahma attended the event and paid tribute to the martyrs at Bodoland Cemetery, Kokrajhar.
