Around 11 lakh women in Assam will receive microfinance loan waivers by April 15. This was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who attended two microfinance loan waiver programmes on January 2nd.

CM Sarma distributed cheques to beneficiaries of the loan waiver scheme in Biswanath and Dhemaji. 11 thousand beneficiaries from Dhemaji and more than 12 thousand women are supposed to be benefitted from yesterday’s rollout.

In the 1st phase the borrowers who fall under the prompt payer category are being given 25 thousand or the outstanding amount whichever is lower.

CM Sarma also informed that a scheme will be designed for those who have not been able to return the loans. A portal will be created & an application will be sought from the defaulting loanees from Feb 1 to understand the requirements & design a scheme.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also appealed to people to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest to save themselves from the Omicron menace. CM Sarma has stated that even now about 60 lakh people in the state have been still not been vaccinated. He said that it is high time people get themselves vaccinated to protect themselves and others as well.
